Meet the Queen of fruits, the Mangosteen.

Today is rather busy day for me. First I had to finish compiling photos and write up for an article in a magazine. Then I have to teach the Bahasa Class. Then I went to the market, after that I felt thirsty (today not fasting) Iwent to buy the quite famous cendol in sec 16. Then I had Lunch. As I looked outside, the sky is very dark, so naturally it reminds me of my mak long. ( Much earlier I told you about mak long who never like dreary weather it makes her miserable) Yesterday promised my dusun caretaker that we will be going to the dusun because she had informed us that the manggis fruits (mangosteen) has started to get ripe. ( I'm not sure whether we will be going in this kind of weather) Manggis gets ripe in stages, so we have to go and collect every other day. If the Durian is known as the king of fruits, the mangosteen is known as the queen of fruits. The ripe mangosteen has a beautiful 'mangosteen purple' colour. Now with the many claims of mangosteen fruits and leaves have medicinal propertieas and there are firms which are manufacturing such products, I have warned my caretaker to look out for people who may come to strip our trees off their leaves! Nowadays yuo cant stay in peace, anthing that will bring money ,bad people will come and steal! So beware!

  1. hopped from oo also. so, does this comment qualifies me to get the hadiah? hehehe. but i will definitely read up your 101 anecdotes when i have the chance especially after reading the glowing review done by oo.

i love mangosteen too! but it is one of the hardest tree to nurture and plant. i think my parents planted a few like 10 years ago and only now we're seeing the fruits of labour, after a few seasons of the durian trees planted around the same time.

  2. hah! biaq betoi!
this is the first time i heard about mangosteen fruits and leaves have such medicinal properties whatsoever...hish, this reminds me about one neighbour when we lived in BB, rawang - the neighbour cut pick out the bunga ros jepun from my planter box until it is semi-botak! (the other neighbour saw this)..then the same neighbour patahkan dahan mango trees!

I heard that fruit trees ni kalau dah ambik2 daun dia, dah tak subur dan berbuah lebat.

  3. Moshimoshi, welcome to my blog. Yes, mangosteen is a slow growing plant but it can last very long. I love mangosteen trees not only because I love the fruits but also the tree itself because of the heavy leaves give a good shade. So we have planted 2 trees in my quite limited compound. Whether you qualify for the hadiah or not, Idont know yet because havent starte to count. Will announce in the blog later, ok?

  4. OO, memang betul ada dah ubat-ubatan dan minuman dari manggis. Ada brochure product tu datang kerumah tapi tak baca habis-habis lagi isi kandungannya. Biasalah, there are good neighbours and sometimes there are not so good neighbours!

  5. Mak Teh,
I ada buat one N3 on mangosteen in June. Manggis ni buah yg paling banyak antioksidan, & it's given the name Queen of fruits sebab it's the only fruit yg ada Xanthone. Macam2 penyakit dia boleh jadi penawar antaranya eczema, diabetic, antikanser, depression, etc.
